Aaron Dorfman
Music Specialist
As a child, I had already loved listening to music prior to my first experience playing an instrument, but something about being able to make music with my own two hands got me so excited. What started as an early curiosity quickly developed into the main interest in my life. After participating in the Jazz Program and graduating from NIU, I set my humble sights on being a professional music teacher and a local gigging musician. I maintained a steady clientele of nearly 50 students a week when I was given the incredible opportunity to join the internationally touring, Chicago-based bluegrass band, “Henhouse Prowlers”. I also worked with the US State Department and traveled to places such as Saudi Arabia, Kenya, and Russia to perform for ambassadors and local musicians alike. I am grateful to have been able to share one of America’s homegrown music forms with people all over the world. But I realized my true calling didn’t require a cheering crowd or a big stage- it is when I am watching a music student understand a new concept for the first time. It is when I can instill a belief in oneself to accomplish great feats! It is my pleasure to foster an appreciation of and love for learning music with the young children of Ravinia Nursery School.
